- death in immediate family (assistance with travel expenses)
- loss of income (due to severe illness, separation, divorce)
- critical illness in immediate family (assistance with travel expenses)
- major loss of property (due to natural disaster)
- government pay error

Modeled after the military relief agencies that provide assistance to uniformed members of the armed services, FEEA is the only non-profit organization that provides scholarships and emergency financial assistance solely to civilian employees of the US Federal Government.
