“I think the perception is important… When you start to see one of these businesses at every corner and see more (of them) than gas stations, it affects the image of our city.”
Henderson City Councilwoman Amanda Cyphers believes that payday loan shops hurt her city’s image…
Henderson, the second largest city in Nevada, has 29 payday loan branches and councilwoman Cyphers would like to keep it that way:
“We are not saying they shouldn’t be allowed in our city, but there is a negative connotation associated with their use and it does impact what view people may have of Henderson. We are so much more than payday loans.”
Amanda M. Cyphers was elected to the Henderson City Council in 1995 and re-elected for her third term in 2003. She currently serves as chairman of the Southern Nevada Water Authority Board of Directors. Cyphers also serves on the Southern Nevada Regional Planning Coalition and the City of Henderson Redevelopment Agency.
