“It’s a way to access the banking system by people who can’t access it in other ways. We do it, too. You and I access money we need by using our credit cards.”
Financial advisor Amy Gibb believes that payday loan companies and pawn shops are simply banks for the unbanked…
In an article by Terri Chance, Gibb said payday loan businesses are banks for those who either don’t have a bank account, good credit, identification or understand of the banking system. She also said that the appearance of payday loan companies is not an indicator of the financial health of a community:
“Their appearance doesn’t mean we’re all slip-sliding downhill.”
Amy Gibb is the owner of Money Sense financial advising in Boulder, Colorado.
