“Payday lenders target young, inexperienced borrowers who have steady incomes, but little savings to fall back on… They often have flawed credit and do not qualify for traditional loans.”
Ann Evans of the Navy Marine Corps Relief Society believes military personnel make ideal targets for payday lenders…
Members of the Navy and Marine Corps Relief Society are trying to find ways to help Marines steer away from using payday loans and have contributed over $86,000 to victims of payday lenders from 2002-2005. Evans said:
“It’s all about prevention and alternatives… We need to pull these Marines back away from these loaners and show them the real ways to slim debt.”
