John Ruoff
“We’re deeply disappointed he would take a job like this. These are bad guys and they do shameful things.”
Anti-payday loan advocacy group director John Ruoff was referring to Tommy Moore, who resigned a 26-year Senate seat this weekend to lobby on behalf of the payday loan industry…
Moore, a former Democratic gubernatorial candidate, resigned from his Aiken County Senate seat this weekend to become executive vice president of the Community Financial Services Association of America (CFSA), a payday loan industry trade organization.
Ruoff suspects that Moore was chosen because he is in a position to convince former colleagues to side with the industry instead of consumers:
“I can only assume that the reason he got this job was so he could come back and help convince his colleagues they should not protect consumers from this industry.”
John Ruoff is research director for South Carolina Fair Share, an advocacy group that is “currently working to curb the practices of the payday lending industry.”
