Minister Jamie Muir
“Quite frankly, these businesses exist, and they do have an apparent place because they are very popular.”
Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations Minister Jamie Muir believes payday loans have a place and said that Nova Scotia will change their consumer protection laws to better protect borrowers…
Muir said his government is examining Manitoba’s draft legislation that requires payday lenders to post exact charges and bans back-to-back loans. Like Manitoba, they will ask the same board that sets utility rates to set payday loan interest rates.
Muir also said:
“People who go to them normally go because they cannot get the financial help from, let’s say, a more traditional institution.”
Minister Jamie Muir is Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations Minister.
