Steven Schlein, spokesman for a payday lenders trade association, describes the industry’s critics as elitists…
In response to consumer group accusations that payday lenders target minority communities and prey on the poor, elderly, low-income wage earners and people who rely on government assistance, he said:
“We go where the business is… We try to reach the middle class. We’re simply looking for customers who need short-term loans and can pay them back.”
Steven Schlein is a spokesman for the Virginia-based industry group Community Financial Services Association.
