Professor Howard Karger
“There’s considerable money to be made from the financial misery of the poor and credit challenged.”
This quote appears in the book Shortchanged : Life and Debt in the Fringe Economy by Professor Howard Karger…
In the book, Professor Karger argues that payday lenders, title loan shops, rent-to-own stores and other cash convenience businesses take advantage of the poor by offering products and services at much higher than fair market values.
Howard Karger is Professor of Social Policy at the University of Houston.
